Six Star Pro Nutrition 100% Whey Protein Plus Review
Protein Type and Content
This is another whey protein concentrate and isolate blend. But to set it apart from its competition, Six Star Pro put in three types of protein isolate: regular whey protein isolate, hydrolyzed whey protein isolate, and 97% whey protein. It calls this a ‘proprietary blend’ but to be perfectly honest, there’s nothing special about it.
Six Star Pro claims the superiority of its whey based on a study showing that whey protein plus creatine supplementation is more effective than whey protein supplementation alone. The study showed that the group who took both whey protein and creatine improved both strength and lean mass gains. To that I can say: DUH!
Each serving contains 2.5g of creatine monohydrate, which is a nice bonus. As a side note, the typical recommendation for creatine supplementation is 5g daily, so if you take 2 servings of this protein daily, you’re all set.
So really there is nothing in the ingredients itself that makes this product outstanding. However, I do like that the actual protein content slightly exceeds the label claim. Lab tests showed that one serving contained 30.6g of protein versus the 30g claimed on the label.
The company deserves props for this and combined with the fact that this protein is great value for money, this protein is a great deal for anyone.
Other Nutritional Information
Nothing much to say here; it’s all fairly standard. That said I must point out that at 180 calories per serving, you better be careful with this one if you’re watching the calories. The carb content here is quite significant at 9g per serving, although only 2g of it is sugar.
Taste and Mixability
This product is delicious. I’m just going to go ahead and say it; it’s the sweetest whey protein I’ve ever tasted. You can’t go wrong with any of the flavors but for me, Cookies and Cream is my top choice. It mixes well, and I’m going to say it again, is just damned delicious.
This is a great value for money protein. What I like is that even at such great value, it’s not a pure whey concentrate but contains both whey isolate and hydrolyzed whey as well! So even if you have some digestive issues you can probably still take this one without any issue. The addition of creatine is a nice bonus, and finally, the taste is simply delicious.
