NOW Foods Whey Protein Isolate Review
Protein Type and Content
As mentioned above, this is a pure whey isolate product, with no whey concentrate present. If you’re confused read more about the different types of whey on my page here.
And because it’s a pure whey isolate, if you are sensitive to lactose or just have digestion issues in general, then this is an ideal product for you.
That said, I have to address the fact that actual protein content of 22.1g per scoop is 11.8% lower than what’s stated on the label. While it’s a negative, there is no doubt that this protein powder is still excellent value for money. After all, my value metric is based only upon actual protein content.
Other Nutritional Information
This a very spartan product. Lower than average calorie count at 110 calories per serving. Basically carb-free at less than 1g of carbs and sugar. The lowest cholesterol and sodium content among all the reviewed products at 5mg and 45mg, respectively. The message of this brand is clear, high quality protein and nothing else!
Taste and Mixability
Now, flavor is definitely not a selling point for this brand, as it has none. Personally, I found the natural unflavored whey to be relatively tasteless. That’s why I drank it with milk. The general consensus is that should you choose the natural unflavored version, it is best you don’t consume it with plain water.
Some people apparently have a high tolerance for tasteless liquids and appear to consume it just fine with water, while others have described it as ‘absolutely disgusting’. Mixability is great, and this product dissolves with just a few stirs or shakes.
Simply excellent value for money when you consider that it is a 100% whey isolate. Ideal for those with lactose sensitivity or digestion issues. Would probably take some experimentation for you to find a drink to mix with or to sweeten it up to your liking. This could be a positive or negative for some, depending on the person.
